Horse riding or equestrianism refers to the skill of men and women with the horse, in recreation and in competition.
Some take horse riding as a hobby, while some engage in horse racing competitions, and some consider it as a sport. As a matter of fact, it is one of the sports played in the Olympics.
For this reason, a lot of horse-riding enthusiasts or equestrians make a career of it as it also follows certain standards and guidelines to ensure safety for those who saddle on horses.
There are riding schools available in many places; there, one can learn lessons in horseback riding, proper riding wear, mounting and dismounting a horse, rider positions, arena lay-out, the walk, the trot, the canter, turning and circles, slowing down and halt, among others.
There are also different kinds of sports that use horses, say for example, arena polo and cowboy polo. There is also Argentina’s national sport, pato, and defined area sports like horseball, polo, polocrosse, and tent pegging.
Horses are also used in cross country sports like competitive trail riding, cross country jumping, endurance riding, and horse riding for pleasure like fox hunting, hacking, and steeplechase.
Horse training is another challenging activity as it needs a lot of time, effort, and money. The basic goal of horse training is the safety of its trainer and to be able to train horses that are world-class. A trainer should also understand the basic principles on horse riding and have a thorough understanding about horses.
